Still basking

Yesterday really was fantastic.

John came home after school with lilies in hand and an anniversary gift. He said, "I've written you a poem. Do you want to read it or do you want me to read it for you?"  Of course I opted for him to read it.  "It's meant to be funny but It also might make you cry."  He sure knows me, I cry a lot and this was no exception.

"Of the 5 years we've complied.
There are two things which make me smile.
1st being the children you've baked.
2nd of course the music we make.
So, here's to 60 more together.
Full of songs that last beyond forever."

I looked at him with tear brimmed eyes and lept up to wrap my arms around him.  "I love it!!" Then he handed me a leather sketchbook and a beautiful pen for us to write our songs in.

Since yesterday I've already written one song and I can't wait to fill it up with more.

DIY Instagram Board Book

Last year I worked for about 4 months collecting images all around our home to make EJ her very own Alphabet Board Book.  It all started around the end of summer when I was house sitting with Lisa at a beautiful little bungalow near the city.  I have fond memories of watching An Affair to Remember all snuggled up with some Ben & Jerry's and shooing away two doggies.  RIP little bungalow, I sure enjoyed pretending you were my house.  Hey Lis, I wish we could go back.

Here are the images in 3 volumes. (1,2,3)

I found a company that does custom board books and sent the book off to print for a Christmas present for Evaleigh.  I used My Custom Story.  I highly recommend them.  The quality of the book has withstood the test of my little book biter and they shipped it a couple of weeks sooner than expected!  I am so in love with how it turned out and I love seeing EJ enjoy it.  (P.S. I spy one hand of painted fingernails and a curl popping out of her head at the end!)

my husband made me cry

Two nights ago I came home from a day date with my sister and EJ in Athens.  When I entered our bedroom Mr. Murphy was snuggled beneath our covers and this was laying on my side of the bed.  I didn't see what it was at first and then when I realized I burst in to tears.

He said it was my Valentine's Day gift but it came late because he didn't know that it was being handmade in Isreal.

I amend what I said about jewelry here.  This necklace means so much.  Mmmmm...I just love him so much.  He is the most perfect gift giver.  Now, I can keep our baby close to my heart no matter where I am.
Aaaaaannnd he's funny.

Last night:

J: April 4th, put it on your calandar.
Me: Why?
J: Titanic in 3d.
Me: "Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo"  (Titanic theme song, of course)
J: Most recognizable theme song.  Oh, do you want something else for dessert?
Me:  Titanic on VHS?
J: Ew, thats like 4 tapes or something.

Really dessert was banana pudding snack packs.  Better than Titanic on VHS?  Not sure.  Better than Titanic in 3d?  No way.

I love that he can make me cry and laugh.

Enough mush?  Ok, I'll stop.  Have a great Thursday.

a shower for a little girl

A couple of weeks back my soul friend threw me and Miss EJ a baby shower.  It came complete with vintage children's books, baby's breath, homemade bread and jam, pomegranate punch served in mason jars with striped straws, and beautiful friends and family.

(this was a tough shot. ladies hold still and look at the camera...1...2...3.)

I feel so incredibly blessed that Evaleigh is already loved so much.  If my friends love her as good as they love me then she will be such a lucky girl.
I can't believe how quickly the time is passing.  Everyone says that the end of my pregnancy will draaaaaaaag on, but I feel like its speeding up.  We only have 7 weeks and a few days left.  We went to the doc today and she is already 4 pounds 4 oz.  I bet she is ridiculously cute.
I can't wait to kiss her little face all over.

Thank you everyone for making it such a perfect afternoon, I love you girls!

(p.s. like how i am catching flies in all of these pictures?  i thought i'd make it a theme...it's no coincidence.)

Dremes do come true

Traditions.
We all have them.
Especially around this time of year.
In my family we have always written letters to Santa and my parents have kept them in an old tin can.  Every year I love going back to the old can and reading all of my letters from childhood.
This year since I am now an old married lady, my mother thought I was responsible enough to have my tin can.

When I brought it home John and I decided to read through all of my old letters.  We also came across some old Santa pictures.
Every Christmas I read the letters.
And every Christmas I can't believe the things I used to ask for.

John and I had so much fun reading through these.  Of course he laughed at all of the silly things I asked for as a little girl.

Here is one of my first Santa letters.  I didn't even know how to write so Daddy wrote it for me.  Apparently I didn't know how to speak well either...

Then we got to a set where I asked for the same thing...
3 years in a row.

The board game Dream Phone.

Oh, how I remember it.  I wanted that game so badly.  How I longed to know who my secret crush was.  I coveted that huge hot pink telephone with the voice on the other end whispering clues to me about my crush.

The first year I asked for it...it didn't come.

(Would you like a few translation tips for this letter? I believe "brieb" means barbie.  Prisaess= princess...
dreme= dream.
Believe it or not I won 3rd place in my spelling bee in 3rd grade.)

The second year I asked for it...Santa let me down again. At least I learned how to spell dream.  Also apparently I had a thing for ying-yangs that year.

The third year I asked for it...nothing, again.  My little girl heart was broken.  I gave up.  I grew up. And soon the desire for a fake pink phone grew in to the desire for a real cell phone.

After John and I finished reading through the letters I placed my childhood desires carefully back in to that old tin can.  I sealed up the can and rested it in my box of old Christmas things.

Two nights ago after I got off of work, I drove to my parents house to see the Christmas decorations my mother and sister put up while John and I were in Colorado.  John decided to drive from work and meet me out there.  We spent the evening catching up and meeting the new puppy that momma got.

When the night was drawing to a close John said, "Santa Claus came to visit my office today and he left something for you.  He wants me to give it to you now"

I asked him if "Santa Claus" just wanted to wait to give me the gift on Christmas day.

He said, "No, Santa thinks you have waited long enough for this gift."

He went out to the car and brought back an embarrassingly large brown box.  I had NO idea what it could possibly be.  I am always amazed at John's ability to give the most perfect of presents.  As I struggled with a butter knife to open this mystery gift my eyes caught a glimpse of the contents inside.

I was speechless.
Seriously, did I marry the most thoughtful person in the world? It was so heartfelt and I sincerely felt emotional about it.  I couldn't believe that after years of  longing for this silly game as a child, it finally was mine.  It was almost as if a portion of my childhood came back to me.  I felt giddy, happy, and nostalgic as I cradled this lovely gift in my arms.

So, now I am going to have all the fun that I can with this amazing game.

Dremes do come true.

By the way, the hot pink phone whispered to me, "John Murphy has a crush on you."

My goal in life is to never grow up but to have stellar wrinkles when I am an old woman.  Let's be children for forever.
