Such a mess

Avett Murphy, I put you to bed two hours ago and I still hear you chattering away in your room with your sister about something.  You must be on Colorado time still.

You are such a cute little punk! A couple of weeks ago you stuck gum in your hair. GUM! I suppose it's a rite of passage in childhood for some kids.  You are such a mess.  Luckily your Auntie Kayla was here to give you a nice haircut to remedy this situation, a much better job than your mom could do for sure, sorry buddy!

I just love you so much, and you love me so much.  You are 'handsome like daddy' and you are so sweet. You say the best things these days and you know all the words and the tune to I am a child of God by heart. It melts me to hear you sing it. We will start potty training soon, wish me luck! Thanks for making me laugh with the funniest faces I've ever seen.

Evie says

Tonight I was running through the tasks of putting the children to bed and I asked Evaleigh to go brush her teeth and she said to me with a sigh, " Uh why do I have to do all the chores, I'm like Cinderella." I tackled her and laughed my head off about that one.

Then I was kissing her goodnight and she asked to say a prayer, which is rare she isn't big on praying unless it's her idea.  She started to pray and I peeked at her and her eyes were wide open so I told her that we close our eyes when we pray out of respect to Heavenly Father so we can focus on what we are saying to him.  She brushes the hair out of my face and said, "But mom, I was just looking at you because your hair looks so beautiful."

So thankful for her humor and beautiful spirit.  She is really in to giving device around the house these days.  She will load a dish or put laundry in the wash and say, "mom I'm giving service!"

conversations with a 2 year old

Evaleigh:

April 7- from the back seat on the way home from pawpaws with Bekah.  The kids were having so much fun we didn't bother with feeding them a lot of dinner.  She was still hungry and must have been thinking about eating.  We hear Evaleigh say, "I like food."

While praying April 13th she said ,"thank you for Jesus water."  She was thanking Heavenly Father for the sacrament.

That same Sunday she learned Gordon b Hinckleys name and could point him out in the book I've been reading.

Evie has been wanting to wear my fake blonde hair piece that I bought for our wedding 4 years ago.  She will run to the bathroom yelling 'long hair long hair long hair!'  And get it out of the cabinet . I keep it in a big plastic ziplock.  When I got it out of the bag for her the other day she sighed in excitement and said, "gorgeous!!"

When we ask her question she will think about it for a minute and then in a high inflection respond, "um...yes!"

Everytime she greets us she says,  "well, hi!"

She will wake john up in the mornings ever so sweetly by touching his face and requesting to go downstairs.  She will wait patiently and is so sweet in the mornings.

She hates to have pigtails but her hair is finally really growing, but most of the time with Shake her head and tell me "no pigtails mommy!"

Throughout the day she will say, "I love you and I love brother and I love daddy.  I'm happy and mommy is happy and daddy is happy and brother is happy."

We took her to Chuck-e-cheese two days ago and she keeps saying, "I need to go back. I want to go back to Chuck-e-cheese!"

Yesterday we were sharing some 'special juice' (juiced spinach, celery, apple, and lime). I asked her if she lived with Heavenly Father before she came to live with me and daddy.  She said, "yes, Heavenly Father.  I did."

And as I'm typing this she is putting her Barbie's hands on the keyboard and she says, "Barbie is working."

after the Italian vacation

Yesterday I went for, hopefully one of my last, OB appointments and John and Evie went with me. Since we switched doctors so late in the game John hadn't met him yet and he wanted to before it was go time.  It was a very unusual appointment in that our wait time was about an hour. Normally I'm in and out in 30 minutes or less, but since the doc had just returned from his Italian vacation the waiting room was packed with appointments.  As we were waiting Evaleigh was being pretty patient and trying to make friends with a few people around us. She definitely had most of the attention in the quiet waiting room. Then out of the corner of her eye she sees a nude sculpture of a mother and baby.  She gets really excited and starts pointing at and touching the naked breasts and very proudly starts exclaiming over and over again, "Boo-boos, boo-boos, BOO- BOOs!!"  All I could do was look at John and hide my giggle then congratulate her for naming the correct body part and quickly move on to something more appropriate like elbows or eyes.  I looked around in the quiet waiting room and most everyone else was smiling or laughing too.

She has great timing....

one of those days

You know the kind of day where everything around you starts imploding?

That was today.

It was 1:51 and I was leaving CJ's for my 2pm OB appointment.   My car told me that I had 0 miles left to go. Fantastic. I made my way up Roswell Road in hopes that we could actually get up the hill. Evaleigh had just woken up from a nap so in an effort to curb her whines and grumps I gave her a tube of chapstick. This is one of our usual desperation moves which normally works wonders. We putted safely in to the Shell and I looked in to the back seat to find my child's face and fingers covered in strawberry chapstick. She just smiled at me which only revealed more chapstick on her teeth and tongue that was being consumed.

It was only then that I realized that all she had had to eat thus far in the day was 4 bites of cereal and a handful of cheezits that some little girls shared with her at church earlier that morning.

Awesome mom award.

I squirt about 10 bucks in and hopped back in the car assuring her that real food was on the way. "But its 1:56...What am I going to feed this child?!" I made my way to the doctors office and on the way had the revelation that I had 1/3 of my leftover Big Buford in the floor board of the car that I had earlier that day.  It was one of those experiences where you are sitting in a drive thru and wondering, "Why am I doing this?  I don't even have my food yet and I regret this decision."

After I found a parking spot I shamefully added that nasty burger to the bottom of the stroller and we booked it to the 7th floor, naturally after missing the elevator the first time.  We checked in at 2:12 and I rushed to the back to leave my "sample".

It was then that I saw that somehow Evie had found a stray cheezit and was seconds away from eating it.  Then she dropped it on the floor and it bounced back behind the toilet. "Uh oh...uh oh...uh ohhhhh.....", she kept repeating as I fumbled around my ginormous belly to pee in to that tiny tiny cup.  She was so frustrated and SO hungry.  "Its ok baby, mommy has something else delicious for you to eat, just one minute ok?"

We went back to the waiting room where I pulled out my smuggled burger. It was my only life line left and I had to use it. Finally we could sink in to our chairs for a bit and hopefully she could eat. To my surprise she took a few bites but not too soon after the nurse came to the door to call me back. Crap...I was caught. I gathered up all of our things and wheeled us back to room 16. Maybe this could be our sanctuary and the poor child could EAT! Nope.

We were faced with a whole new set of distractions. EJ was pointing at everything and asking to touch it. She wouldn't accept any toys in our bag so I looked around in desperation for something to distract her.

An ultrasound sheath?

A model of a uterus?

We settled on a magazine.

A few minutes passed and right between the time Evie was putting her baby under her shirt and the time she started taking interest in the stirrups Dr. Glorious Perfect Timing came in. I just adore everything about my OB. She let Evie play with the tape measure and help listen to the baby's heart beat. All was well and as we were leaving the nurse at the front gave EJ 2 stickers.

It made her day.

On the way home I looked in the rear view mirror and found my daughter eating the stickers.

Why not top off our diet of chapstick and nasty burgers with a little sticker?

When we finally made it home I filled her little belly with peaches, milk, and spaghetti.

And that was most of my day.

a future scout

When we headed out of the door last night I knew our baby's gender looked like a toss up.

John had promised a night of going to Sherry's Produce down the street to get our Christmas tree. When we got there, Sherry had closed her shop for the night, I guess that's what you get for going out in search of a tree at nearly 7:30 on a Monday night. I was disappointed and John and I tossed around the idea of trying again on Wednesday because by then we would have our decorations. "But dangit," I thought, "I showered AND put on makeup. We are going to get our tree!"

So we went driving and shortly came upon a troop of Boyscouts selling Christmas trees, success! We got out and Evaleigh started kicking her little legs and panting like a dog, the way she does when she gets excited. We went over to the 5 and 6 footers and she started pointing at one tree over and over. We knew it had to be the one because she picked it out!

So we took it over and a Boy Scout clipped off the low boughs. Another man, who smelled like he had been hitting the sauce that night, came over with a chainsaw...I had to take a few steps back. He trimmed the bottom of the tree, took one look at EJ, and said, "Well you sure are cute, a future scout for sure." We just smiled and said, "You bet."

And that it the story of how our future little scout got her first Christmas tree.

and just like that...

...we have a talking baby.

I mean I knew it would happen one day and thats just how it went. One day she was making little muted noises that sounded like she had been gagged and stuck in a closet and then the next she was full blown talking.  It happened over night.

She is definitely keeping us laughing around here, we love our chatty little girl.

So. freakin. adorable.

another baby!!!!

If not, go now.  It will make you smile...or cry...or laugh...most likely laugh because I am sporting the ugly cry.

Well finally at 28 weeks this girl has a baby bump.  It took a while for that thing to get on out there but now its the cutest bump around!  She has the most ACTIVE little boy in there. I love him so much already and can't wait to have another little baby around.

I told her she has the pregnancy glow.

She said, "No, its just the toaster effect on Instagram..."

No pretty sister, you've got your glow on.

Now give me a nephew.

a cough and a toot.

At the end of this week our beauty will be one month old.  I literally CANNOT believe it.  Here are some clips of the first month of her little life.  And yes, that is a toot at the end, I'm a proud momma.

Dear Time,
Please slow down.
Love,
The Murphy Family

happy trails...

Last night Mr. Murphy got home from a late evening of some basketball playing and I was laid up in bed snuggled deep down in our comforter.
He promptly came to my side of the bed, bent down to give me a kiss, and then rubbed the side of his sweaty face all over me!
I gagged and then cleaned the side of face for 5 minutes.
He sure knows how to turn a lady on.
Yum.
He went to shower and then the dance show in my tummy began.
EJ started moving and I told John to hurry up and get his buns in bed so he could cop a feel on my growing belly and maybe catch a kick or two himself. (this has yet to happen and I think it makes him sad)
I lifted up my shirt and he rested his hand on my tum.
He rubbed his hand around for a moment and then without hesitation began to sing, "Happy trails to you...."

I am loving the perk of rapid hair growth a-top my head.
Unfortunately the growth can't be contained to one spot...
Thank ya very much, husband.
